Reviews

The Within Pages® Leadership Series has been reviewed by leaders, practitioners and professionals across leadership, technology, counselling and organisational settings.

This page brings together selected foreword excerpts, professional reviews, leader reviews and practitioner reflections on the structure, use and value of the series.

Forewords and Reflections

The first reflections on The Within Pages® Leadership Series come from Dr Durgavasini Devanath, whose work has been shaped by emergency medicine, humanitarian response and leadership in high-pressure environments.

Dr Durgavasini Devanath contributed the published foreword to Step In and provided approved foreword reflections for Move Through and Lead On.

Read together, these reflections follow the arc of the series: stepping into responsibility, practising leadership under pressure and considering what leadership leaves behind.

  • From the Foreword

Composure, Responsibility and Learning Before Readiness

    The Within Pages® Leadership Series
    Vol 1. Step In

“In the early years of my work, I was often asked to take responsibility before I felt fully prepared. Preparation is rarely complete. Yet the role still requires us to respond. The environments were demanding, time was limited and decisions could not wait.

What enabled me to continue was not the certainty of having every answer, but the discipline to remain composed, to assess carefully and to keep learning as I moved forward.

This journal is written for those stepping into responsibility. Its reflections provide structure for noticing patterns, strengthening awareness and developing the groundedness others look for when times are uncertain.”

Practice, Steadiness and Leadership Under Pressure

    The Within Pages® Leadership Series
    Vol 2. Move Through

“As leadership develops, the challenges change. It is no longer about stepping into responsibility for the first time, but about sustaining performance and guiding others through uncertainty.

Leadership growth is not abstract. It emerges in how we handle conflict, how we respond under pressure and how we build trust with those who depend on us. These habits are not innate. They are strengthened through practice and reflection.

Leadership cannot be sustained by intention alone. It must be supported through consistent practice.”

Continuity, Culture and What Leadership Leaves Behind

    The Within Pages® Leadership Series
    Vol 3. Lead On

“With time, the questions of leadership shift. Leadership that endures is leadership that prepares the ground for those who follow.

Continuity requires more than structures. It is carried through culture, daily actions and the habits that shape how individuals work together.

This journal is an invitation to consider that responsibility. It encourages leaders to reflect on legacy not as a distant idea, but as something created through consistent choices made each day.”

Emotional Intelligence in Action: Reflect & Respond

    The Within Pages® Leadership Series,
    Vol 2. Move Through
"I appreciate how the ‘Move Through’ journal builds on volume one’s self-awareness journey, inviting deeper reflection on emotional patterns and triggers. This volume empowers individuals to navigate professional complexities with clarity, empathy, and integrity, recognising instinctive reactions and growing toward consistent, intentional, emotionally intelligent responses to lead by example with authenticity and a lasting positive impact."

    Full review
"Both journals offer a thoughtfully designed experience that invites meaningful engagement rather than passive completion. I deeply appreciate the modular structure, which allows for intentional selection of the most relevant themes to explore, rather than requiring a linear progression. This flexibility supports autonomy and ensures that each reflection feels timely and personally resonant.

The 'Leadership Lens' is particularly impactful. Its placement and framing offer a powerful vantage point for deeper self-awareness, encouraging reflection not just on actions, but on the values and intentions that shape them. It feels less like a directive and more like an invitation to lead with integrity, humility, and insight.

I also value the inclusion of 'Pro Tips' and 'Micro Breaks' throughout the journals. These elements provide gentle nudges toward positive action, offering practical ways to integrate self-awareness into daily life. They strike a beautiful balance between encouragement and empowerment, reminding the reader that growth doesn’t require grand gestures, but rather consistent, thoughtful steps."

    Self-Reflection and Ongoing Leadership Development

    The Within Pages® Leadership Series
"My journey in the technology industry has been a remarkable evolution, beginning as an eager young professional ready to learn and contribute to the organizations that welcomed me. Over the years, I have grown into leadership positions, accumulating valuable technical knowledge and collaborating with numerous experts across various domains. While technical expertise is crucial and often measurable, I have found that the true challenges lie in the realms of leadership and management.

As a leader, I have encountered numerous misconceptions and made my share of mistakes. However, the key lesson I've learned is the importance of continuous learning, not only from personal experiences but also from the teams I lead. Here, soft skills – often the hardest to master – become the foundation of effective leadership.

Emotional intelligence is not just an ideal but a necessity for ongoing leadership development. Using the books from "Within Pages" has been a transformative experience. I approached them with an open mind, ready to absorb their insights. These books are not merely prescriptive guides to enhance leadership skills. Instead, they are designed to foster self-reflection and self-learning, providing lasting value. They are resources to be revisited repeatedly, offering new insights as one progress on their leadership journey.
These books have become a permanent part of my library, and I will continue to use them as essential tools in my ongoing development as a leader."

    People Leadership and Deep Introspection

    The Within Pages® Leadership Series
"As leaders we are tasked with supporting, nurturing and developing our organisations most valuable assets, our people. Within Pages is a thoughtful, well structured way to challenge me as a people leader to reflect on the leader I need to be thereby creating an environment where our people can thrive.

The journal format creates a framework for deep introspection that can be constantly revisited. It reminded me that leadership is not 'one and done' and should be revisited regularly to ensure we are learning, growing, adapting, questioning, introspecting and challenging ourselves ensuring our people feel inspired, safe and loving what they do.

Within Pages also reminded me of the opportunity to learn and grow by being open to feedback from my team and leading with authenticity and vulnerability, thereby creating a team culture that invites feedback, engaging in healthy conflict and growing together."

    Framework for Daily Reflection
"Both journals provide a succinct daily framework for self-reflection, anchored by short, wise prompts that guide the reader to look inward. These prompts are clearly distilled from years of practical leadership experience and a deep understanding of how honest feedback fosters growth."

    Modular, Non-Linear Approach
"A standout feature is the modular structure: readers are encouraged to choose the area they wish to focus on, rather than following a rigid sequence. This flexibility respects individual needs and allows for a personalised journey—whether you’re building self-awareness, exploring mindset shifts, or developing emotional agility."

Depth of Content: Internal Gazing, Meditation, and Sensing
"The journals blend internal gazing and self-reflection with practical exercises in meditation, sensing, and awareness. These practices cultivate presence and emotional intelligence, supporting leaders to become more attuned to themselves and those around them."

    Wisdom and Accessibility
"The short words of wisdom throughout are accessible yet profound, making the process of reflection approachable for both emerging and experienced leaders. The guidance is gentle, never prescriptive, non-judgemental and always encouraging honest self-exploration."

    Practical Application and Growth
"Both volumes move beyond theory, offering applied frameworks tested in real organisational contexts. Readers are prompted to reflect on their values, mindset, emotional responses, and team dynamics, with space to record insights and set intentions for growth. I will also encourage these journals to be used as ongoing companions, a resource to return to, support continues growth and look back on what has changed. I also encourage these journals to be valuable for team workshops or peer reflection, fostering collective growth."
